Installer and Recipients gather for entrance.
ENTRANCE OF INSTALLER AND RECIPIENTS
Sangha is assembled and standing. Chanter leads the chanting of “Calling Out to Hungry Hearts.” (or play tape recording) Installer and Recipients enter during the chanting.
Installer purifies space and circle with water and/or flowers and/or incense.
Senior strikes clappers and announces the beginning of ceremony:
Honored guests, family, and recipients, I respectfully announce to everyone that the Zen Peacemaker Order Entering Ceremony for _______________ will now begin.
Installer: Wishing to join the Zen Peacemaker Order, first you should atone. Let’s us chant the Verse of Atonement.
Verse of Atonement (3 times)
All karma ever committed by me since of old,
Due to my beginingless greed, hatred, and delusion.
Born of my actions, speech, and thought.
Now I atone for it all.
READING OF THE RULE
Installer: Now you will vow to follow the Rule of the Zen Peacemaker Order. Let us read the rule together as a call and response.
Installer calls, Recipients respond in reading the Rule together.
Installer: Now having the Rule of the Zen Peacemaker Order, will you vow to embody it in your life?
Recipients: “Yes, I will.”
PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATE AND STATEMENT
Installer: I invite each recipient to come forward as I call your name to receive the Certificate of Installation and to speak leanly to “I have taken this Rule because ________________.
PLEDGE OF SUPPORT
Installer, Recipients and Peacemakers: (repeat after Installer)
I vow to give love and support to each of you and to nurture peace in my life and the life of the world.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF END OF INSTALLATION
Senior strikes the clappers and announces the conclusion of the ceremony.
I respectfully announce to everyone that the Zen Peacemaker Order Installation Ceremony for (READ NAMES) ________________________ is now concluded.
CHANT THE BODHISATTVA VOWS (3 times)
Numberless beings, I vow to serve them.
Inexhaustible delusions, I vow to end them.
Boundless Dharmas, I vow to practice them.
Unsurpassable Buddha Way, I vow to embody it.
