  • File_001Zen Peacemakers is committed to continue honoring, learning from, and supporting the indigenous peoples and the Native Americans on Turtle Island. Following the success of the 2015 Zen Peacemakers Black Hills Bearing Witness retreat, Zen Peacemakers supported the donation of hundreds of pounds of winter clothes to Pine Ridge Reservation. This summer, twenty-five participants visited Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation, helped built homes for Lakota residents, dipped in the river with the children, visited the local youth center, met community organizers in La Plant and the village of Badger, and were welcomed by Chief Arvol Looking Horse, the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred Calf Woman Pipe.

“We had the honor of working on a house that will be the home of a local man. The conversations, the companionship of the people from Simply Smiles, a chance to talk with the future-owner of the home and get his perspective on the Res, and the satisfaction of contributing to such a worthwhile project filled our hearts.” — Plunge Participant

  • IMG_7242Nearly two dozen Zen Peacemakers have attended Oceti Sakowin Camp at Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to bear witness to the historic stand of the indigenous Nations of Turtle Island against the DAPL pipeline. Zen Peacemakers supported their coordination, outreach and communications.
  • ZEN PEACEMAKER ORDER (ZPO) – An International Movement Our global community based on the Three Tenets is involved in all aspects of social action. Zen Peacemakers Inc. provides the international operations and coordination of this multi-national organization. Zen Peacemaker Order Members mobilize to support refugees, counter climate change, eliminate homelessness and support indigenous people around the world.

  • img_8834Auschwitz-Birkenau has become a symbol of intolerance, indifference and cruelty. It has also become the destination for pilgrimage for twenty-one years by Zen Peacemakers, to appreciate diversity and interconnection, and to learn how to respond to present day massive-scale human suffering. This year the 2016 Zen Peacemakers Auschwitz-Birkenau Bearing Witness Retreat was attended by eighty participants from seventeen countries, including forty-five who have come for the first time. Among them were two Palestinian/Syrian refugees, connecting the retreat to present-day war. Throughout the years, this retreat has inspired countless other such events in Rwanda, the Black Hills, Bosnia and others.

“I came quite “not knowing” and plunged into one the most meaningful experiences in my life. I felt cared for, safe and guided through this week with enough flexibility to find my own pace during the week. I totally felt as part of a compassionate community and I am deeply thankful for all these moments of deep humanity and loving kindness.” – 2016 Retreat Participants.

Babson_sml_6Roshi Bernie Glassman is the Zen Peacemakers Inc. Founder and spiritual director. 2016 was marked by Bernie’s severe stroke in January, which provided new challenges to his close family, caregivers, and to Zen Peacemakers. Countless supporters helped us give Bernie the treatments he needed for his recovery. Please help us meet his needs’ goal for 2017. In particular, we are gathering funds for a $14,000 treatment developed by world-renowned neuroscientist Edward Taub. Bernie has undergone one such treatment in October 2016 concentrating on his right leg. This treatment was instrumental in helping him travel and participate in the 2016 Zen Peacemakers Auschwitz-Birkenau Bearing Witness Retreat. This next 2-week treatment will concentrate on his right arm, and this amount will cover the treatment, his travel and compensation for an accompanying caregiver.
