Chairman and Secretary: Grant Couch
Grant Couch has been in the financial services industry for over 35 years and is currently the Chairman of Manhattan Bancorp and its subsidiary Bank of Manhattan. He developed a deep interest in the buddhist path in 1994 and since then has been an active supporter of many related organizations.
Around 1990 the question of “why” caused Grant to begin exploring the spiritual path. 4 years of religious and philosophical self-study led to finding a deep personal resonance in the Buddha’s teachings. Since then he has studied with many Tibetan, Zen and Vipassana teachers. In addition to bearing witness retreats, his practice is based on meditation and universal love.
Grant has traveled extensively and is fascinated with the incredibly divergent cultures of the world. Through ZP or on his own, he has been on bearing witness retreats at Auschwitz-Birkenau, Hiroshima, Rwanda and The Bowery in NYC. He has danced the Sun Dance with the Lakota. Bearing witness to humanity’s joy and suffering opens his heart to the oneness of us all.
Grant has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Lehigh University. He retired from the financial sector in 2008 as President and Chief Operating Officer of Countrywide Capital Markets. He then spent 2 years as the CEO of Sounds True before leaving full-time work in 2010.
In addition to his involvement with ZP and the Manhattan Bancorp, Grant also serves on the investment committee of the Aravaipa Fund, and is a financial advisor to FPMT and the Tricycle Foundation.
