Dr. Ariyaratne was one of the most important leaders of engaged Buddhism in the world. He was the founder and leader of the Sarvodaya movement. Sarvodaya is a social non-violence movement based on Buddhist and Gandhian principles and practice. Currently Sarvodaya is active in 15,000 villages implementing a development model, combining spiritual, social, economical and political aspects.
