Please join Duncan Ryūken Williams, as he will discuss a new exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in Los Angeles on Buddhism, Christianity, and the WWII Japanese American incarceration, which he co-curated under the title, “Sūtra and Bible.” He will focus on the Buddhist altars, sutra stones, memorial tablets, etc. made by former wartime internees as significant artifacts of American Buddhist history as sangha members drew on their lineage’s teachings, rituals, and sense of community to help them survive forced removal, indefinite incarceration, family separation, and unjust deportation.
